Executive Directors Message
Richard Pearson

The Reload, a publication which reports firearm news, reports that David Chipman, Biden’s nominee for ATF Director and former Chief Advisor to the Gifford’s anti-gun organization, has had racial complaints lodged against him in the past.  The Reload also revealed ATF agents who worked with Chipman won’t talk about him for fear of reprisals against them if he indeed is nominated.  There are many gun owners and dealers who fear that if Chipman is nominated, he will use the ATF to punish them whether they did anything wrong or not.  Please continue to call Senators Dick Durbin (202.224.2152) and Tammy Duckworth (202.224.2854) and oppose his nomination.

The National Matches have entered the High Power Rifle phase.  Two ISRA competitors have scored points on the way to achieving their Distinguished Marksman Badges.  ISRA competitors have scored a couple of medals in the NTI matches at Camp Perry.  One won the High Senior and another was High Civilian Match Rifle.

At Sparta, Illinois, the Grand American Trap Championships will be in full swing next week.  The youth portion AIM Shoot has already started.  On Saturday and Sunday, the ISRA, CZ Firearms and the ATA will be sponsoring the 3-Gun Tactical Shoot.  Thanks to all those ISRA members who volunteered to help out.

The latest FOID card and ICCL numbers are in.  As of August 4, 2021, the number of active FOID card holders was 2,429,996 and the number of ICCLs was 426,068.  Firearm sales between March of 2020 and the end of February 2021 was 580,353.  Every FOID card holder goes through 360 background checks a year and every ICCL holder goes through another 360 background checks a year.  Background checks are not run on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, Easter and the 4th of July because the courts are closed.  Add to that another background check whenever a firearm is purchased.  Firearm sales continue to rise but based on the numbers I have just stated, that means Illinois lawful firearm owners will go through approximately 1,028,763,393 background checks this year.  Yes, you read it right, over one billion background checks.

Of course, none of these background checks apply to the drug fueled street gangs that rove the streets of Chicago and other cities in Illinois shooting up everything and everyone they can.  If they are caught, they get a stern scolding and released.  That will show them by golly!
