Do you believe in the right to bear arms?
Gun owners and Second Amendment advocates are currently grappling with a significant threat to their rights. The recent surge in efforts to ban firearm accessories such as bump stocks and arm braces is raising alarming concerns about potential government overreach.
Following the devastating Las Vegas shooting in 2017, which tragically claimed the lives of 60 individuals, authorities honed in on bump stocks as a potential issue. While not fully automatic, this firearm accessory allows for rapid firing thanks to its internal spring that activates with each round fired.
During the Trump era, a law was enacted that effectively banned bump stocks. Since then, law-abiding gun owners have been steadfastly and bravely fighting for their rights, a battle that continues to this day.
More recently, on June 18th, Democrats introduced legislation banning bump stocks. However, due to Sen. Pete Rickets’s objection, this bill has effectively met a stalemate.
A “Gun-grabbing Overreach”
Rickets said, “This bill would ban any item that makes a firearm easier and, in some cases, safer to shoot.” “It’s not really about bump stocks; this bill is about banning as many firearm accessories as possible,” he said. “It’s an unconstitutional attack on law-abiding gun owners.”
Ricketts later announced that this bill was “a gun-grabbing overreach.”
The ambiguously written bill could potentially give the Biden administration the capability to take aim at “common firearm accessories, not just bump stocks.” “That’s really, really scary,” -Ricketts
For now, this infringement on law-abiding gun owners is on hold. This is not the end of this fight, though Democratic Sen. Schumer still has other avenues he can take to push this bill ahead. Though they will likely take more time.
