Welcome to the first in our series of Smokin’ Gun Worx informational articles. Here we will be discussing non-lethal home defense, in particular the Umarex T4E HDP 50.
What Are Non-Lethal Weapons?
What are non-lethal guns and for what are they used? These are defense weapons that are not meant to kill your target but rather incapacitate them with kinetic energy or chemical spray, such as a pepper spray. (These are better suited for situations such as pickpockets.)
Highlights of the Umarex T4E HDP 50
The Umarex T4E HDP 50 is a wonderful option for a non-lethal weapon. The CO2 operated firearm has many features, starting with a fiber optic sight. It has a safety trigger much like the GLOCK firearms do. The Umarex T4E HDP has an integrated picatinny rail so that you can mount a laser or flashlight for better visibility at night.
Loading the Umarex T4E HDP 50
The Umarex T4E is easy to load. First, you will need to insert a 12 gram CO2 cartridge into the gun and firmly screw the retaining valve back into place.
Next, you will load the magazine with your ball of choice. Retract the spring of the magazine, load six balls into the area, then gently release the spring to put pressure against the trigger mechanism. The gun is now loaded and ready for action.
To activate the firearm, firmly slap the retaining valve of the gun to pierce the CO2 cartridge. You should see the striker fire style indicator pop out from the back of the handgun. Now the trigger is activated and you will be able to fire.
To deactivate the gun, unscrew the retaining valve with an Allen wrench and slowly allow the CO2 to dissipate.
What Is Included in the Umarex Kit?
Along with the handgun, you will receive 2 varieties of ammunition.
The first tube contains .50 caliber hard rubber balls, which are useful both for practice and in self-defense. Just be careful who you shoot with these, as they will leave a decent welt!
The second tube of ammunition contains .50 caliber pepper spray balls. These are effective at a 20-30 feet range, and fire at 375 feet per second. They have a 12 foot radius of pepper spray around the impact area. (Reminder: A pepper spray gun should only be used by law enforcement or as a self-defense device.)
You will also receive an instruction manual and a cleaning kit.
